Department are rated on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the best and 10 being the poorest. These evaluations are most thorough covering all aspects of a department's competence in rendering fire protection. These Public Classifications are used by most insurance companies to set rates for their policy holders. The lower the Class the lower the insurance premium, thus it pays a community to invest in it's fire protection.
